3:35 pm - Donations Needed

Hi everyone!

I'm organizing a silent auction/dinner fundraiser for Lathrop Academic Decathlon and am trying to recieve donations. I know quite a few of you are alumni of AcaDeca so I won't bother you with the considerable benefits of the program. What I need is silent auction donations from yourself or a business you think would be willing to donate something. As always money would be worshiped but goods, services, or gift certificates would be just as welcome. If you have nothing to give but would still like to help out I need suggestions on local businesses or people who you think would be willing to donate goods or services. Bonus points if you could give me the name of whoever is in charge of donations in that company. Call me, Marie, at 590-sixteen twentytwo or respond to this post.
Thanks so much for any help!

3:42 pm - Hello!

Hi, everyone! I'm an alum, class of 2001, and was just surfing around looking for info on the school when I ran across this journal. So, I guess I have a couple of questions for all of you so lucky as to be attending Lathrop...what's new? What's changed? How is high school amidst the frozen tundra? Is the school and the community still very arts oriented? Is the selection of clubs, activities and languages still as diverse as ever? Or are you all not far enough removed from the situation to give fair opinions yet? Thanks. Let me know.

12:19 am - Something weird I noticed...

So I have this theory that since Stitham left Lathrop, that the value of education has decreased greatly.

I'm looking at the more academically outgoing students in my grade (senior, for those of you who don'tw know), and realized that so many of them are jumping into the slacker end. I've heard stories of those people who took 5 AP classes their senior year and got that 5.0. Now, all the people that might have been validvictorian are taking only two classes that mean something (and some of the people are only taking two classes!).

Also, the lack of AP comparitive government makes me sad this year.

Any other thoughts about anything around these topics?

PS- Anyone else interested in becoming a moderater? I'm the only one now and days, considering Sedruce got a new journal, and doesn't keep up with this community.

9:42 am - First days

This will go down as my first post in this community. Good stuff.

The Lathrop Talent Show (Lathrop Unplugged as it was called) was on Friday, October 14th. Overall, the whole show went well. I unfortunately didn't stay for the whole thing to know of everybody that placed, but I do know that the Lathrop Swing and Ballroom Dance Team took 4th with their Night Club 2 Step dance to "Hero" by Enrique Iglesias. In 2nd place was Manny and another girl with a duet rap. And 1st place was taken by the polynesian dancers. There were people that I felt should've won something, but I'm not the judge unfortunately. If someone could fill me in on who took 2nd and so on that'd be kickin'.

International Friendship Day was held on Saturday, October 15th. There were a lot of performances, including the Lathrop High School Swing and Ballroom Dance team. There were also the breakdancers, who are past Lathrop-goers, salsa dancers, dancers that had the ability to balance glasses full of water on their heads, and many more. The food was really good too. You gotta love chinese food (at least that's what I was eyeing).

Upcoming events:
1) The LHS Swing and Ballroom Dance Team will be selling ham and crab very soon. If you are interested in purchasing some later (preferably from me seeing as I need to sell something this year :-P) you can call me (452-8541, ask for Chris), or leave a comment in my journal with contact info and I'll get back to you (I check lj pretty much everyday).

Other events to come!

1:31 am - Club Potential

Hello all!

So, I had an idea awhile ago to start up a new club at school and just recently Mr. Grassi offered to sponsor us, so I thought I'd get it known here and see if anyone's even interested in the idea.

It's, basically, a club about religions and understanding beliefs that have been muddled with prejudices and just all-around learning about different denominations around the world and promoting religious tolerance.

This club won't really focus on the major religions, such as Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism, but on lesser-known beliefs, such as (but most definitely not limited to); Rastafarianism, paganism, Satanism, Gnostisism, and others. It's a club promoting the broadening of one's mind and, of course, learning. There will be absolutely no pushing beliefs, this is simply an informational club for people who may have an interest in theology and feel like sharing thoughts with others with those same interests.

Well, that's my bit. The only time we have available for us now is Tuesdays at lunch, but we have no set date yet...reply if you feel you'd be interested!

7:36 pm - looking for some information.

I'm actually looking for anything kinda Paranormal that's happened in Fairbanks. I don't need information on Fairbanks Memorial or Chena Hotsprings though. Those you can find on sites online.

If anyone has anything freaky to tell that's happened around the Birch Hill rec area that would be awsome.

Reason I need it: I'm writing a novel and need to check to see if some of what I have would actually make sense. If I could get some accounts to refference it would be easier to freak out people.

Gods... You can tell I'm a hometown girl eh? It may take me a while to respond to you, I share the computer and it's my friend's night on. But I will get to you as soon as I can.

((Cross posted to my LJ, and most of the paranormal groups I'm in, on top of everything I'm in dealing with Fairbanks.))

11:14 pm - To keep a pulse going here...

For those you who didn't know, all the pictures for year book I'm assuming are done- the finished parts of all the pages will be sent out tomorrow (and by tomorrow, I mean today cause it's late).

Last week was when they were running around frantically trying to get pictures of clubs that supposed to already have pictures. I'm not sure if GSA finally ever got any. Yeh...they need better management.

Anyways, Aca Deca regionals are this weekend. Cheer on any acadeca students!

(PS-Swing club's big show will be in hearing April 23rd- which is also during the marine bio trip to seward)

3:55 pm - Romeo and Juliet! Act 5!

Practice times are set!

Ok, here are the rehearsal dates and times for Romeo and Juliet. Remember it's just Act V, and it doesn't need to be memorized, just familiar. Friday 1/14, Tuesday 1/11, and Friday 1/21. Rehearsals will be 2:30-3:45. If Fridays don't work, we can always change it to Thursdays.
Meet in the cafeteria.

Remember that, tomorrow, this friday, and next friday. I know this is short notice but if you can't make it tomorrow then come friday and everything will be spiffy!

8:19 pm - Drama

Lathop! Things are finally coming together!! On January 22nd the Shakespeare company acting thingy is having what they call a Bard-a-thon! It's a 3 day long read of all the works of William Shakespeare. Lathop has been offered the 5th act of Romeo and Juliet. Wouldn't that be cool to find enough people to do this? There's a catch though, if your interested you must come to a drama club meeting once school starts again to get details. If your really serious comment on here to say your coming and if you have a preference for a part you'd like to read(memorization not required) tell me so and I'll see what I can do. First come first served. But I'm being Paris and that is that.

4:59 pm - Drama Club?

Here is the requested update on the drama club:

Since the Idea came up things have been moving slowly and haphazardly. None of the teachers at Lathrop wanted to sponsor us making it sehr complicated. A person with in the school distric however volenteered but I have yet to meet her and work out details. Most likely drama will be for sure up by the end of January(or I will die!).
So far it's decided that the play will be some tales from the 'Canterbury Tales'.

I hope that's of some help. I kinda distanced myself from this as of now and am not willing to jump in managing it head first as I once did so I don't know everything. When I hear something though I'll be sure to post.

8:24 am - This might be interesting...

Hey everyone, I'm just reminding you that there is a live journal meet up this Saturday at the College Coffee House at 8 PM. No one has posted anything about them for a while, so I thought a reminder would be nice.

If you don't know what one is, check out this site. You can sign up there and recieve updates.

I hope to meet many new people this time! Espicially those in town for the holidays! Take care!
